Rational

Fish Memory follows Tahir, a fishmonger in his 60s who suffers from dementia. His usual morning routine takes a turn for the worse when his mind begins to unravel and he finds himself surrounded by hallucinations.

The use of muted green-blue colours in the first half of the film, coupled with the dark and confined market, were incorporated to portray the terrifying and isolating ordeal that is dementia. The shift from blue to red and the endless expanding market were meant to signify the increasing danger Tahir faces in the depths of his condition and the feeling of being lost in a place that should be familiar to you.

The film ends on a bittersweet note. While Tahir must continue to live on with his dementia, he knows that there is someone who will be there for him. His son. We wanted to show that it does not always have to be a lonely experience when you have the right people beside you.
