Brief

Every year, Malaysia sings of unity. Our anthems celebrate the familiar choreography of togetherness: race, culture and colour. Beneath the chorus lies an unspoken truth: inclusion has always had its limits.

As Malaysia’s national connectivity powerhouse, TM wanted to create a National anthem that questioned those limits. Instead of repeating the well-worn images of harmony, we sought to listen to the voices that unity often overlooks: Malaysians who live and feel differently, whose experience of belonging doesn’t fit the national script.

In a world that connects billions through cables and screen, we asked ourselves:
What does connection sound like when it finally includes those who have never been heard?

Solution

Helo Malaysia was written and performed by ZIMI’J, a neurodivergent band whose sense of rhythm doesn’t follow convention. Their sound became the foundation of a new kind of National Day anthem: one that didn’t perform unity but lived it.

The music video brought together sound and sight in a language beyond words. Children from the Early Autism Project reimagined the song through art with colours that pulsed, lines that wandered, and shapes that broke form. More than decorating the music, the visuals revealed how it was felt.

Each frame and note was built from genuine human perception — unfiltered, unpredictable, and deeply Malaysian.
When it aired on National Day, for the first time, a national song invited the country not just to sing along, but to listen differently.
