Roots’ immerses audiences in Malaysia’s mangrove ecosystems, turning awareness into personal experience. Using hand-tracking technology, participants’ hands transform into mangroves, visually and sonically revealing their crucial role in sustaining coastal biodiversity. The installation combines animation, interactive visuals, and soundscapes to make ecological connections tangible, translating abstract environmental issues into immediate, sensorial understanding. By bridging technology and nature, ‘Roots’ educates while captivating, encouraging empathy and stewardship. This experiential approach transforms passive learning into active engagement, making the importance of mangroves memorable, meaningful, and personally impactful, inspiring action to preserve Malaysia’s vital coastal ecosystems.
