Brief

Science, Technology, Engineering, and Maths (STEM) education is vital to Malaysia’s growth. Yet, only 44% of students take up STEM. Maxis’ eKelas learning platform wanted to help with the mission. The problem? Students think online classes are boring. What they’d rather be doing: playing games on the popular Roblox metaverse.

Solution

We took STEM to their world. We built a series of fun missions on the popular kids’ gaming metaverse Roblox to teach science and coding in a fun way. Missions included saving their city through STEM puzzles, designing a rocket to mars, building a Martian colony, and coding your own world.

Students, gaming influencers and even Malaysia’s first astrophysicist Professor Emerita Dato’ Seri Dr. Mazlan Othman joined in the fun. Leading to 800,457 impressions, 8,297 mission sign-ups and a 93% increase in eKelas registrations in 2021 (vs 2020).
