Brief

The brief was to create a Chinese New Year video which emphasised good health. So we on embarked on a journey to rediscover prosperity. Wealth and prosperity are usually defined by money and possessions. This is quite evident in the Malaysian Chinese society. The traditional yardstick for a successful and happy life is often in the amount of money you make, businesses you own and possessions you have. But in recent times, we have seen that none of these riches matter without good health, peace of mind and the comfort of family.

Yet, many still refuse to acknowledge this.

Solution

Sri Kota Specialist Medical Centre has been operating in the old township of Klang for the past 25 years. Klang is known to be home to traditional Hokkien speaking Chinese families who take great pride in running their small homegrown businesses, tirelessly. We took the opportunity, during the Chinese New Year, to tell the story of a typical “No-nonsense” Chinese father, whose only interest is the well-being of his family though the success of their family business. He is prudent and obsessed with hard work and isn’t swayed by modern comforts and luxuries. Neither does he afford himself time for proper rest or recovery. Like most unassuming Chinese families in Klang, this story is steeped in old values and traditions which are challenged repeatedly in the film, in the hope of driving realisation of what wealth and prosperity should also mean beyond money and possessions.
