Sumodopon, a KadazanDusun word which means sunset, is a story inspired by my life living in Kuala Lumpur as a Sabahan. My family and I moved to Kuala Lumpur at the age of 9 and my expectation of the city life experience was soon crushed when I realise that many people here did not know the existence of my home state, including my primary school teachers. I felt alienated from the world as people question the kind of life of live, even though our life were not that different from each other. The questions regarding what kind of outfit I wear and if I live on trees in my hometown did not stop after graduating secondary school. It only got worse from there when random people bullied me for my “lack of knowledge on technology” or for my Malay accent.
