The Five Star Match is a dark comedy short film set in a flamboyantly artificial dating agency. The story follows Danson Goh, a socially anxious man overwhelmed by his mother’s expectations, who visits Heartwell Matchmaking in hopes of finding love. There, he meets Dylan Heartwell, a narcissistic “love wizard” who prides himself on his eccentric and shallow matchmaking methods. The meeting begins with rom-com absurdity but gradually slips into eerie territory as Danson’s behaviour becomes more unsettling. He reveals disturbing traits and an obsession with women who disappeared after their dates with him, all matched by Dylan. The climax unfolds with a chilling twist: Danson kills Dylan and assumes his identity as the new head of the agency. This satirical thriller explores themes of societal pressure, toxic masculinity, performative romance, and the hidden dangers beneath surface-level charm.
