Rational

Ngai E Popo is a zine stitched from my memory inspired by my Popo. This zine is about my Popo’s Hakka Heritage and the ‘Bu Tian Chuan’ festival. My Popo used to tell me about how ‘Bu Tian Chuan’ festival teaches us to be grateful about the ‘waste’ in life. The Hakka people believes that fragments that are once discarded or forgotten, found new purpose when bound together. Just as the traditional cuisine Yong Tau Fu and Patchwork Quilt, from patching the toufu skin with the meat, to sewing the unwanted pieces of fabrics together, ’waste’ creates new life. Ngai E Popo reminds us that if we make good use of what we have, we could turn ‘waste’ into wisdom.
