Taptile
TAPTILE addresses the daily navigation difficulties experienced by visually impaired individuals in Malaysia, who rely on tactile paving that often lacks clear directional guidance. This gap can lead to uncertainty and safety risks in complex public spaces. The project introduces an audio-assisted tactile paving system that activates through cane contact, offering direction-based voice instructions to support safer and more independent mobility.
To build awareness and test its feasibility, TAPTILE was presented through an integrated multimedia campaign featuring a PSA video created with the Malaysian Blind Association, a product showcase website for potential partners, and an exhibition where visitors interacted with the prototype. The blind experience and Braille activity further helped visitors understand the importance of accessible infrastructure.
The project demonstrates how improved tactile systems, combined with public engagement, can promote a more inclusive and navigable
