“Pretty Hurts” is a series of conceptual fashion accessories that visualises the silent suffering women endure to conform to beauty ideals and gendered expectations. Translating the phrase “beauty is pain” into a wearable language, the pieces — thorned bracelets, chained chokers, and mouth piercings — symbolise control, sacrifice, and emotional pressure. Motifs like chains, padlocks, hearts, thorns, and butterflies represent restraint, love as captivity, and transformation through pain. The series culminates in a fashion photoshoot of a “perfect girlfriend” robot whose system breaks down, symbolising a woman’s awakening — reclaiming beauty through freedom, self-love, and acceptance.
